Myofascial Release

Unlike traditional massage therapy, myofascial release is an advanced type of hands-on soft tissue manipulation that involves applying gentle sustained pressure to stretch tight and sore areas and, thus, eliminate pain and restore motion.

This manual technique uses sustained pressure into the fascia.  The process relaxes contracted muscles and increases venous and lymphatic drainage of the released toxins in the affected area.

Fascia is a smooth, tough, elastic type of connective tissue that covers and supports every structure in your body, including your muscles. When your muscles are strained or injured, the fascia contracts, thus causing pain. In the case of chronic strains and severe injuries, the fascia may stay contracted.

As simple as it may sound, myofascial release requires specific training. This is why the doctors at Reagan Integrated Sports Medicine have achieved certification in this technique.

Our team of chiropractic and sports medicine specialists does an expert job performing myofascial release with professional athletes and other patients who need additional help to relieve their pain and relax their muscles and tissues.

If you are experiencing pain in your muscles, tendons, ligaments, or joints, and it doesn’t respond to more conventional treatments, we may incorporate myofascial release in your treatment plan in order to restore tissue health, increase your range of motion, and improve function.

For enhanced results, myofascial release can be combined with other treatment options, including:

  • Acupuncture
  • Chiropractic care
  • Massage therapy
  • Trigger point injections
