Does Regenerative Medicine Treat Tendonitis?

July 29, 2022

Gene therapy concept. Medical technology. Medtech.

In the past, people with tendonitis and other musculoskeletal issues had very limited treatment options. With the significant advances in biotechnology is the emergence of treatment modalities that tackle musculoskeletal problems by leveraging the body’s innate healing ability– regenerative medicine.

If you’ve heard of regenerative medicine and you want to learn more about how it works for tendonitis and other musculoskeletal issues, we’ve provided some information below to give you a useful insight into this new paradigm of medicine.

Regenerative Medicine for Tendonitis

There are a number of regenerative medicine approaches used in tendonitis treatment. These include platelet-rich plasma therapy and Prolozone® therapy, as outlined below:

  • Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy

This involves a regenerative medicine specialist extracting the patient’s own blood, processing it in a centrifuge to separate the platelets from the other components of the blood, and injecting the serum into the area of injury. Once the serum is injected, the healing process begins.

PRP contains growth factors that stimulate the regeneration of damaged tendons and boost their strength after healing, thereby providing remarkable symptom relief and ultimately restoring normal function.

PRP therapy is done under image guidance (ultrasound) for exact identification and assessment of the affected tendon and for greater precision.

Since PRP therapy is autologous, meaning it is obtained from the patient’s body, it poses no risk of rejection. In addition, PRP therapy has very minimal side effects, which include slight bruising and soreness in the area.

Depending on the severity of your condition, your regenerative medicine specialist may recommend up to three injections within a six-month period, usually two weeks apart, for best results.

  • Prolozone® Therapy

Prolozone® Therapy – a revolutionary homeopathic technique developed by Dr. Frank Shallenberger – harnesses the power of medical-grade ozone gas to stimulate the regeneration and repair of damaged or weakened tendons and other soft tissues.

Once injected into the body, ozone works by enhancing oxygen utilization, thereby improving blood and nutrient supply to the area and ultimately restoring full function.

Like PRP therapy, Prolozone® therapy is done under ultrasound guidance for greater accuracy.

Regenerative medicine specialists typically recommend that patients get between three and eight sessions of Prolozone® therapy, given up to six weeks apart, to see their desired results.
